The idea is the thing: Free Water
Water must be free. Not a corporate investment, neither contaminated or politicized. It must be free, a utility for all.
My work starts with a story about R. J. Jenks – a street sweeper in San Francisco who saw water spoiled.
Wasted, unavailable. Drinking fountains removed. Now water is in bottles.
Jenks’ pottery enfolds free and found objects. Like a bricoleur, he finds and reclaims water.
Yet so quickly it returns, as worn and tattered vessels. Shattered and broken.
The idea is the thing.
